Jason Vavao

- What is your complete name (first, middle, last)
Jason Mayne Vavao
- Please explain your Samoan heritage.
I am half samoan from my father’s side. My grandfather was born in western samoa but grew up in Leone.
- How did you start playing baseball?
I started playing Tee ball and never stopped playing after that.
- What high school did you play baseball at?
I went to Carson High school
- Have your ever been drafted by a MLB team?
I was drafted in the 16th round by Cincinnati Reds in 2001
- What college did you attend, during what years and what position did you play?
I went to Harbor Community College in Harbor City, CA during the 2000 and 2001 season. I played first base.
- What is your most memorable college baseball experience?
Not much happened in college. I guess most memorable was when my coach sat me against a not so good team so that I can rest and the non-starters can get a chance. I got to pinch hit when my coach found out it was my birthday. I came in with bases loaded and hit a grand slam then was sat again. It was awesome! All i wanted was one at bat anyways.
- What encouragement do you have for young baseball players?
Follow your dreams. No matter what anyone says there is always hope and a chance to do it if you believe and work hard. Think big and play big!
- In a few sentences, how would you describe your journey in baseball?
I was told that the chances of me to play pro ball was slim. I understood that but I used that to make a positive influence on me and work harder. I played 5 years of pro ball before I retired and it was a great time in my life.
- Do you have a favorite baseball team and player?
Los Angeles of Anaheim Angels & the Cincinnati Reds are my two favorite baseball teams. Albert Pujols is my favorite baseball player.
- Why did you choose baseball instead of other options?
Because I loved the game!
