He was a good enough quarterback to receive offers from division I colleges around the nation, however, when the Los Angeles Dodgers drafted him out of high school Rick decided to concentrate on baseball. In his years at pro ball, Rick was known for his raw strength and power. As a huge Samoan, his swings and contact fit his size as the ball darted off of his bat.
